Literature Text

I'm looking through this two-way mirror
and I see us living in reverse
The future's leaving, no sign of death
the past is inching ever nearer
and every word, every breath
So finely written, well-rehearsed.

Let's go back to blowing bubbles
playgrounds, crayons, endless mirth
No taxes, hatred, lust, or strife
at recess time, forget our troubles
rewind it all, 'til dawn of life
In place of death, we'll meet unbirth.

If I asked you to, would you come along?
Won't go alone, but can't stay here
trapped in place and ever fleeing
If I gave up now, would it be wrong?
searching always, never seeing
That loving you is my strongest fear.
Do you ever wish you could just go back to being a kid? Forget the troubles and responsibilities of adulthood, and just return to a time when nothing really mattered if it wasn't fun?

This poem has a rhyme scheme of "ABCACB"... the asymmetrical rhythm this creates aids the theme of the poem, perhaps reflecting how things might be different the second time around, if one did manage to return to their childhood.
