Last night
I dreamt you existed
pink smile
bouncy curls
you said 'Daddy.'
This morning
I saw you
through a car's window
in a shopping cart
on a man's shoulders
playing in the sand.
'Daddy' wasn't me.
Tomorrow afternoon
I'll wake up sweaty
convinced you ran away
my pulse racing
searching for you
and remember
you're just a dream.
Someday
you'll kiss my cheek
laugh aloud
say you love me
cry out my name,
'Daddy.'
