When you say you love me now
do you know for certain
does your heartbeat stop like mine
when you swear you'll love me always
do you mean forever
how long is eternity
when you kiss my neck
do you feel exposed
or do you feel the world spinning beneath us
when my lips meet yours softly
do you know I'm dreaming of you
do you know I'm waiting
for time to stand still
do you know for certain
does your heartbeat stop like mine
when you swear you'll love me always
do you mean forever
how long is eternity
when you kiss my neck
do you feel exposed
or do you feel the world spinning beneath us
when my lips meet yours softly
do you know I'm dreaming of you
do you know I'm waiting
for time to stand still
I wrote this poem according to a prompt given me in my twelfth grade "Digital Arts - Creative Writing" class. We read a poem which I am fairly certain was called "Conqueror" (though try as I might, I cannot find a single shred of proof of this poem's existence on the internet), and were instructed to write a poem with an entirely different premise, but following the same structure; three stanzas of three lines each, always asking somewhat rhetorical questions, but without regard to punctuation or capitalization. I went a step further, and used the exact same naming conventions as the original-- whereas "Conqueror" was written to the conqueror of a nation of people, "Beloved" was written for the girl to whom my heart belonged at the time.
If anyone happens to know the original poem I am referring to, please help me track it down! That would be a ton of help! Thank you.
